MINUTES
SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
JUNE 16, 1981
A special meeting of the Falcon Heights City Council was called to order
by Mayor Warkentien at 5:30 p.m.
Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Steele, Brown and Larson. Also present
was Clerk Administrator Barnes.
Councilmember Eggert.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss clean up of debris left by the
tornado of June 14, 1981. Clerk Administrator Barnes informed Council
that he had surveyed the damaged area and had counted 358 trees down
leaving large numbers of branches to be removed. The following branch
clean up options were considered: (1) City would contract a hauler to
pick up branches placed on boulevards at no cost to homeowners, (2)
City would pay half of the cost of removal with a limit of $100.00 per
homeowner, and (3). Have homeowners contract for branch and debris re-
moval and the City consider reimbursing the homeowner for at least a
portion of the cost.
Following the ensuing discussion Councilmember Steele moved, seconded by
Councilmember Brown that the homeowners should contract to have branches
hauled, submit a receipted statement to the City, whereupon the amounts
will be tabulated and Council will determine the amount of reimbursement.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Warkentien informed Council that some of his neighbors have re-
quested a street light be placed on Albert Street halfway between
Garden and the walkway. Alight had been scheduled for that site many
years ago but due to some opposition it was never erected. Council
also discussed the lack of lighting on Larpenteur and on Fairview
and the matter was deferred to the June 24, 1981 meeting for further
discussion.
eJ
PRESENT
ABSENT
CITY TO
ASSIST HOME-
OWNERS IN
REMOVAL OF
BRANCHES
LEFT BY STORM
OF 6/14/81
STREET LIGHT-
ING REQUEST
Clerk Administrator Barnes informed Council that the Lauderdale Fire LAUDERDALE
Contract is due for renewal July 1, 1981 and recommended that there FIRE CONTRACT
be no increase in rates for the coming year.
