Council then deferred the concerns and directed that Clerk Administrator Barnes meet with Chief Renchir. to prioritize the items and obtain estimated costs for each. Council discussed a letter dated December 1.1t, 1982 from Lou McKenna, Director, Department of Taxation and Records Administration, regarding problems with the November 2, 1982 Election. Following the discussion, Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, that the Clerk Administrator draft a reply t o the letter indicating that Pdr. McKenna's letter was a whitewash of the problem and attach a copy of Resolution 82-51 relating to the County's election procedures, copies to be sent to Commissioners Finley, Salverda and Orth. Motion carried unanimously. Council discussed the League of I~Linnesota Cities proposed Legislative Policies for the 1983-8l~ Legislative Session and directed the Clerk Administrator to submit the completed auest~onnaire indicating the City's interests. L__J A letter dated December 27, 1982 from Briggs and D.Rorgan regarding the condemnation award on the Community Building property w as noted. A letter dated December 21, 1982 from Barbara Leary, 1382 '~~+. Iowa, commending Council on placement of stop signs in the Iv'orthome area was noted. Mayor Yvarkentien announced that the League of Minnesota Cities Con- ference for Newly Elected Officials will be held February 5, 1983 and a Seminar For All Election Officials will be held February !~, 1983. After Councilmember Chestovich indicated an interest in attending both sessions, Mayor Vuaxkentien moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, that Councilmember Chestovich be authorized to attend the meetings. I~iotion carried unanimously. Mayor Warkentien presented the following recommended appointments to the Planning Commission: 3 year terms, Al Stefanson, Jerry V~allin and Erma Olson, 2 year terms, Don Mead, Phil Chenoweth and Harold Nilsen, and 1 year terms, Jim Bourquin, Mary V~~aldo and kelen Brown, and moved approval. Council member Ciernia seconded the motion which Council approved unanimously. Mayor 1~'+:arkentien presented the 1983 Council assignments for Council's review. There were no objections t o the assignments. Attorney Jan de North informed Council that Attorney Swanson will continue working on the condemnation matter, the codification will be available for Council's review at the next meeting, and that research is being done to d et=ermine whether or not the City has a viable claim against American Shelter Corporation.
