R!II NUTES <br />SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />JANUARY 5, 1983 <br />PAGE 5 <br />from the Fire Department's Capital Improvement Fund. Council then <br />deferred the concerns and directed that Clerk Administrator Barnes <br />meet with Chief Renchir. to prioritize the items and obtain estimated <br />costs for each. <br />Council discussed a letter dated December 1.1t, 1982 from Lou McKenna, <br />Director, Department of Taxation and Records Administration, regarding <br />problems with the November 2, 1982 Election. Following the discussion, <br />Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, that the <br />Clerk Administrator draft a reply t o the letter indicating that Pdr. <br />McKenna's letter was a whitewash of the problem and attach a copy of <br />Resolution 82-51 relating to the County's election procedures, copies <br />to be sent to Commissioners Finley, Salverda and Orth. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Council discussed the League of I~Linnesota Cities proposed Legislative <br />Policies for the 1983-8l~ Legislative Session and directed the Clerk <br />Administrator to submit the completed auest~onnaire indicating the <br />City's interests. <br />L__J <br /> <br />A letter dated December 27, 1982 from Briggs and D.Rorgan regarding <br />the condemnation award on the Community Building property w as noted. <br />A letter dated December 21, 1982 from Barbara Leary, 1382 '~~+. Iowa, <br />commending Council on placement of stop signs in the Iv'orthome area <br />was noted. <br />Mayor Yvarkentien announced that the League of Minnesota Cities Con- <br />ference for Newly Elected Officials will be held February 5, 1983 <br />and a Seminar For All Election Officials will be held February !~, <br />1983. After Councilmember Chestovich indicated an interest in <br />attending both sessions, Mayor Vuaxkentien moved, seconded by <br />Councilmember Larson, that Councilmember Chestovich be authorized <br />to attend the meetings. I~iotion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Warkentien presented the following recommended appointments <br />to the Planning Commission: 3 year terms, Al Stefanson, Jerry <br />V~allin and Erma Olson, 2 year terms, Don Mead, Phil Chenoweth and <br />Harold Nilsen, and 1 year terms, Jim Bourquin, Mary V~~aldo and kelen <br />Brown, and moved approval. Council member Ciernia seconded the <br />motion which Council approved unanimously. <br />Mayor 1~'+:arkentien presented the 1983 Council assignments for Council's <br />review. There were no objections t o the assignments. <br />Attorney Jan de North informed Council that Attorney Swanson will <br />continue working on the condemnation matter, the codification will <br />be available for Council's review at the next meeting, and that <br />research is being done to d et=ermine whether or not the City has a <br />viable claim against American Shelter Corporation. <br />
