1 <br />Appointment of Councilman Stone moved that Dr. Gustave Hard be appointed <br />Village Horti- village horticulturist for 1972. Councilman Taylor sec- <br />culturist: onded. Motion passed. <br />Purchase of Clerk Administrator Barnes requested permission to pur- <br />Directory chase four copies of 1972 Directory of Minnesota Municipal <br />Copies: Officers at four dollars each. Councilman Taylor moved <br /> permission be granted, seconded by Mayor Warkentien. <br /> Motion passed. <br />Variance for The request for variance for a fence on the vacant lot <br />Fence: Harry adjacent to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Olson, <br />Olson, 1436 W. 1436 West Larpenteur, and which encloses a swimming pool <br />Larpenteur: and play area set back approximately five feet from the <br /> front property line, has been discussed by Council before <br /> and has been tabled. Councilman Taylor moved that it be <br /> brought before the Council for decision, seconded by Mayor <br /> Warkentien. Motion passed. Councilman Stone stated that <br /> in his opinion, Council should back up the Planning Com- <br /> mission by denying the variance. Councilman Taylor moved <br /> the variance be approved with the condition that a land- <br /> scaping sketch be submitted to Council by April 27th for <br /> approval, utilizing some type of shrubbery between the pres- <br /> ent site of the fence and the property line on Larpenteur <br /> Avenue, and that the landscaping be completed no later than <br /> 45 days after approval of landscaping plan. Councilman <br /> Ecklund seconded. Motion passed with the vote as follows: <br /> Aye: Mayor Warkentien and Councilmen Taylor and Ecklund. <br /> Nay: Councilmen Black and Stone. Motion passed 3 to 2. <br />Housing Advis- Mayor Warkentien read a letter from the Metropolitan League <br />ory Committee: of Municipalities relative to appointments to be made to a <br /> Housing Advisory Committee. He moved that the Village of <br /> Falcon Heights go on record as recommending to Mr. Jack <br /> Kozlak, our district representative, (with a copy of letter <br /> to Mr. Marvin "Mike" F. Borgelt) that Councilman Black <br /> serve on that committee. Councilman Taylor seconded. <br /> Motion passed. <br />Water Cooler Councilman Taylor moved that permission_be given to pur- <br />for Fire De- chase a water cooler for the Fire Department at a cost of <br />partment: .$105.50 to be charged to Capital Improvement Fund. Council- <br /> man Black seconded. Motion passed. <br />Proposed A letter from Ralph A. Hermes was read in which he offered <br />Liquor Store his rental property of approximately 3200 square feet for a <br />Sites: possible liquor store site at a cost of $933 per month. <br /> (The basement area is included in this price.) <br /> Also a letter was read from the Harvey Investment Company <br /> offering the space formerly used by the Falcon Heights State <br /> Bank. The space is approximately 4000 square feet. The <br /> monthly rental for the first two years would be $750, $900 <br /> for the second three years. After discussion, Mayor Warken- <br /> tien moved that Clerk Administrator Barnes investigate the <br /> cost and time involved of a marketing survey and that he be <br /> given authority to delve more deeply into offers submitted <br />
