X867 <br />SPECI <br />The special meeting was <br />members being present: <br />W. A. Mortenson, Clerk. <br />Brad Lemberg, Engineer. <br />AL MEETING FEB~R,UARY 6, 1963 <br />called to order at 7:30 P.M. with the following <br />Harold C. Nilsen, Mayor ; George Shavor, Trustee; <br />Also present were Wm. E. Olsen, Treasurer; and <br />Civil Defenses Mr. Leo Weet, Civil Defense Chairman, put on a <br />demonstration of the emergency supplies being <br />stored in our Civil Defense shelters. The value <br />of the supplies is naw about X6,000.00 and even- <br />tually will be as much as X15,000.00 to $18,000.00. <br />Food is in the form of canned biscuits along with <br />drums of water. There are no provisions for sleep- <br />ing, so it will be up to the individuals to provide <br />their own sleeping bags or mattresses. The shelters <br />are in the basements of the live stock pavilion and <br />the Administration building on the State Fair <br />Grounds. The next location will be for about 350 <br />espaces" near the bowling alley on the south-east <br />corner of Larpenteur and Snelling Ave. The food is <br />expected to keep for five (5) years. <br />Deputy Clerk: Mr. Norman Gilbert, 165 W. Skillman, was in attend- <br />ance for an interview by Council Members regarding <br />the fob of deputy clerk and treasurer. He related <br />his past experiences and Sob qualifications. <br />Program for 1963s The plans for 1963 for various village improvements <br />were reviewed including Mutual Fire Aid, Public <br />Safety, Street Lighting, Traffic Control in res- <br />idential area, changes in village bookkeeping <br />procedures and system, board of health Frith a <br />spring inspection, dog control, drainage, recreation <br />and play grounds, street and alley maintenance, the <br />Larpenteur Avenue crosswalk, extension of water <br />system. <br />Crosswalk lights With plans drawn up by the County Engineer for an <br />approved lighting signal on the crosswalk at <br />Larpenteur Avenue near Snelling Avenue. It was <br />moved by Mayor Nilsen that the Village Engineer <br />be authorized to get six (6) bids on the rec- <br />om~nended amber signal lights and submit them to <br />the Council, seconded by Mr. Shavor - Passed <br />Fire Underwriterss The board of Fire Underwriters will be making a <br />village inspection of equipment and buildings on <br />February 7th. There is a possibility of a further <br />reduction of our fire insurance rates, if we can <br />be reclassified to Class 5 and 6. <br />
