190© <br />Nilsen moved, seconded by Shavor that the Plot Plan be <br />submitted to the Village Engineer for checking. Passed. <br />Civil Defense Stanley P. Schultz, 1725 N. Fry was formally sworn in <br />Director: as Local Civil Defense Director. <br />Probationary Warkentien spoke of changes made in other communities <br />Period - Police: extending the probationary period from six months to a <br />year for policemen. No action was taken at this time. <br />Public Hearing On motion of Nilsen, seconded by Stone the Council <br />Crawford-Pascal recessed at 8:00 for a public hearing regarding the <br />Improvements street improvement of Crawford Avenue from Simpson to <br />Pascal Avenues, and Pascal Avenue from Crawford to <br />Larpenteur. Mortenson read the formal resolution ca11- <br />ing for the assessment hearing and the advertisement <br />for bids. <br />The following residents spoke against the project: <br />Fred Martin, 1717 N. Pascal; Charles 5ehrantz, 14b2 <br />Crawford; R. W. Kranz, 1l~84 Crawford; Fred Stoker, <br />1718 Simpson; John Hassinger, 1l~78 Crawford; ~dilliam <br />Dunkel, 1!t?!~ Crawford; and Roy Benz, 1712 Pascal Avenue. <br />On a showing of hands the opposition was unanimous, <br />It was therefore moved by Stone, and seconded by <br />Warkentien that a resolution disapproving the improve- <br />ment be adopted. Passed <br />It was then moved by Mortenson and seconded by Shavor <br />that a resolution be adopted to reject all bids received <br />for the project and return them to the bidders unopened. <br />Passed. <br />Fry Street Mr. Julian B. Lee submitted a petition for extension of <br />Watermain the watermains on Fry Street. <br />Petitions <br />Schommer Pool Mr. Ray Schommer, 1197 W. Idaho Avenue-made application <br />Display for a display of an above Grounds swimmixig pool on <br />Application: Lots !~ and 5 (south of Webers Cafe} Snelling Drive <br />between Crawford and Larpenteur. The question of need <br />for a variance application arose. The plan is to be <br />referred to the Planning Commission. <br />Galvin: (1) Regarding complaints of Maple Knoll residents on <br />reduction of legal speed in their area, it is up to <br />the State Commissioner of Highways. <br />(2) In view of the new ownership and name of our legal <br />newspaper, the Rose Tribune, a new resolution of des- <br />ignation will be needed. <br />
