2.93 S'_~ating Rink An agreement was signed by Mayor Nilsen and Clerk Agreement: Strandquist relative to permission from the Regents of the University of Minnesota to operate a skating rink in the vicinity of 2154 Folwell Street for the 1966 - 1967 winter skating season. Tree Maintenance A discussion followed concerning trees in the boule- Recommendations: vards in Falcon Heights. Dr. Hard said that the over-all situation is good. To date, approximately 90 percent of the trees have been pruned, the except- ions being Autumn Street and Hollywood Court. About 15 trees on Simpson Street and Arona Street, which were treated in the early part of the program, have begun to show signs of dead wood. There is no prob- lem in the area relative to scale etc. Problem trees that have low-hanging branches should be taken care of this winter. He suggested that some trees be removed from Autumn Street. Approximately 25 trees on Craw- ford, Arona, Simpson, Larpenteur, Iowa and California need trimming or pruning. Dr. Hard estimated that X1000 would cover any necessary work on trees in Falcon Heights. Northland Tree Service was recommended. Councilman Stone moved that we employ Northland Tree Service to do necessary trimming and removal of trees during the winter season, Dr. Hard to make arrangements and submit the contract to the Council. The motion was seconded by Councilman Warkentien and unanimously carried. Boulevard Trees in Councilman Black suggested that when the Klatt and New Developments: Pothen Subdivisions materialize, it be urged that a tree be planted in the boulevard of each lot. When asked what species of tree he would recommend, Dr. Hard suggested the sugar maple. It was also sug- gested that trees be planted after the building per- mits are granted to insure proper placement. Better Service It was agreed that a letter be sent to the B & E from B & E Patrol: Patrol stating that there have been numerous com- plaints of dogs running loose. No dogs are allowed at large in Falcon Heights at any time. Larpenteur & Engineer Lemberg reported that the Highway Depart- Snelling Traffic ment has submitted a set of plans for signal revision Signals: at Larpenteur and Snelling. Approval by January 6th is requested. Letting date is January 20th. A meet- ing will be set up to discuss this and come to a de- cision.
