1805 <br />REGULAF h~?EETING SEPTEP~IBER 26, 1962. <br />Meeting was called to order at 7 P. M., the following Members of the Council being <br />presents Harold C. Nilsen, Mayor; W. A. Mortenson, Clerk; C. P. Stone, Trustee; <br />Willis ~'tarkentien, Trustee; George Shavor, Trustee. Also present were M. J. Galvin, <br />Village Attorney; Brad Lemberg, Village Engineer; Wm. E. Olsen, Treasurer; and <br />Ethel E. White, Deputy Clerk and Deputy Treasurer. <br />It was moved by Stone, seconded by Mortenson and voted to approve the Minutes of <br />the Meeting of August 22nd, as submitted. <br />Variances: Request for Variance by Geo. Zaier, 1892 No. Arona, for per- <br />mission to enlarge his single garage to a double garage with the <br />building line within 3' of his line, was referred to George <br />Shavor. W. A. Mortenson will also look at the property. <br />It was moved by Nilsen, seconded by Mortenson and voted to <br />allow the variance for the sign for "Flower City" as requested <br />by Macey Signs, Inc., as recommended by the Planning Commission, <br />subject to the payment of the ?k5.00 Variance P'ee. <br />It was moved by Warkentien, seconded by Stone and voted to <br />allow the variance for the sign for the Falcon Heights State <br />Bank as requested by Lawrence, Inc., as recommended by the <br />Planning Commission, subject to the payment of the ~k5.00 <br />Variance Fee. <br />Civil Defense: Leo Weet, Director of Civil Defense for the Village of Falcon <br />Heights was present. He advised that while the Village should <br />be eligible to share in the plan where the Government would <br />share half the cost of our Civil .Defense expense, Congress has <br />not voted the money and it is possible that we-will not get any <br />reimbursement from the Government. He advised that, after <br />having made the survey of suitable shelter space available, <br />he had been advised to thank those people who granted permission <br />to use space in their buildings but to tell them that it had been <br />decided not to go ahead with ±,hat project. Government plans are <br />so indefinite that, while he has a group who have offered their <br />services, he hesitates to go ahead. on anything because plans are <br />cancelled almost as soon as they are made. He requested that his <br />salary be discontinued, but said he would be glad to continue as <br />Civil Defense Director for the Village and do all he can on an <br />"expense basis" to include postage and gasoline. The Council <br />is reluctant to discontinue his SS50.00 a month salary, feeling <br />that he more than earns it, but at Mr. Weet's insistence, they <br />compromised and Nilsen moved that the salary of the Civil Defense <br />Director, Leo. J. Weet, be changed to $25.00 a month, effective <br />January 1st, 1963. The motion was seconded by Mortenson and <br />carried. <br />The following resolution was adopted on motion by Nilsen, seconded <br />by Mortenson and carried: <br />WHEREAS the Vil-lags of Falcon Heights, by Ordinance No. 26 as <br />amended by Ordinance No. 62 provides for Civil Defense and for <br />
