~~r Legislative Letter of January 21 from the~League of Minnesota Conference - Municipalities xas read, relating to a special legislative conference to be held at the Lowry Hotel, Feb. 3, to consider .Social Security, three legislative proposals as follows: Highway Commission r recommendations - (1) Optional O.A.S.I. (Social Security) coverage for Property tax losses municipal employment - as a supplement to P.E,R.A. (2) Support for the Highxay Study Commission recommendations on certain conditions. (3) Property tax losses. After discussion, Stenzinger moved that the letter be re- ferred to the Chairman of the Legislative committee xith authority to represent the Village at said conference. Seconded by Shavor and motion carried unanimously. County's Road and County Auditor's letter of January 13, xas read, authorizing Bridge fund for 1955 an apportionment of X1,966.49 in the County's apportionment Road and Bridge fund to Falcon Heights for the construction and maintenance of streets. The Clerk xas asked to check and report on reduction in the allotment as compared xith a year ago. Sanitary sever Maps and information presented to the Council by Village Engineer Carley in connection xith the sanitary and storm seller proposal xere discussed. It xas agreed that this information should be referred to the Leg#~lative committee for consideration. The Mayor xill do so. Public Safety Com. Letter of January 26 xith recommendations of the Public. recommendations Safety Commission xas read and discussed xith the Chairman of the Commission, S. D. Bumgardner, Jr., who xas present. The council then acted on each recommendations as followsz (1) Hustrulid moved approval of .the recommendation to maintain the present police department until June 1, 1955, and to add a third officer xhen conditions xarrant, provided a trained man is available, xith request that. the Commission recommend a qualified applicant. Seconded by Stewart and motion carried unanimously. (2) As to the Village providing for spot lighting of the pedestrian cross-xalk because of the present inadequate lighting in the Larpenteur,$~slling business area; Hustrulid xas asked to check into the matter and report back to the council. (3} On the question of xhether State traffic laxs apply in the State Fair grounds; the Village attorney xas asked to determine xhether the Attorney Galeral has issued an opinion. (4) As to recommendation that the Council determine the reason for fencing the facant space immediately rest of the Applebaum store. The Village attorney advised that this is a private matter and that the council could not take formal action Frith respect to it.
