~~r <br />Legislative Letter of January 21 from the~League of Minnesota <br />Conference - Municipalities xas read, relating to a special legislative <br />conference to be held at the Lowry Hotel, Feb. 3, to consider <br />.Social Security, three legislative proposals as follows: <br />Highway Commission r <br />recommendations - (1) Optional O.A.S.I. (Social Security) coverage for <br />Property tax losses municipal employment - as a supplement to P.E,R.A. <br />(2) Support for the Highxay Study Commission recommendations <br />on certain conditions. <br />(3) Property tax losses. <br />After discussion, Stenzinger moved that the letter be re- <br />ferred to the Chairman of the Legislative committee xith <br />authority to represent the Village at said conference. <br />Seconded by Shavor and motion carried unanimously. <br />County's Road and County Auditor's letter of January 13, xas read, authorizing <br />Bridge fund for 1955 an apportionment of X1,966.49 in the County's <br />apportionment Road and Bridge fund to Falcon Heights for the construction <br />and maintenance of streets. The Clerk xas asked to check <br />and report on reduction in the allotment as compared xith <br />a year ago. <br />Sanitary sever Maps and information presented to the Council by Village <br />Engineer Carley in connection xith the sanitary and storm <br />seller proposal xere discussed. It xas agreed that this <br />information should be referred to the Leg#~lative committee <br />for consideration. The Mayor xill do so. <br />Public Safety Com. Letter of January 26 xith recommendations of the Public. <br />recommendations Safety Commission xas read and discussed xith the Chairman <br />of the Commission, S. D. Bumgardner, Jr., who xas present. <br />The council then acted on each recommendations as followsz <br />(1) Hustrulid moved approval of .the recommendation to <br />maintain the present police department until June 1, 1955, <br />and to add a third officer xhen conditions xarrant, <br />provided a trained man is available, xith request that. <br />the Commission recommend a qualified applicant. Seconded <br />by Stewart and motion carried unanimously. <br />(2) As to the Village providing for spot lighting of the <br />pedestrian cross-xalk because of the present inadequate <br />lighting in the Larpenteur,$~slling business area; Hustrulid <br />xas asked to check into the matter and report back to the <br />council. <br />(3} On the question of xhether State traffic laxs apply <br />in the State Fair grounds; the Village attorney xas asked <br />to determine xhether the Attorney Galeral has issued an <br />opinion. <br />(4) As to recommendation that the Council determine the <br />reason for fencing the facant space immediately rest <br />of the Applebaum store. The Village attorney advised <br />that this is a private matter and that the council could <br />not take formal action Frith respect to it. <br />
