63 <br />REGULAR MEETING, WEDNESDAi', DECEMBER 7, 1955 <br />Meeting called to order at 8:05 P.M., xith all council members present <br />as follows: Robert E. Stenzinger, Mayor; George J. Shavor, Trustee; Andrea <br />Hustrulid, Trustee; David P. Cartxright, Trustee; Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk. Also <br />present - William E. Olsen, Treasurer, and Frank N. Graham, Attorney. <br />Minutes of November 23, 1955 were heard and approved as read. <br />Req'ns. On motion by Cartwright, seconded by Stenzinger, requisition <br />Nos. 69 No. 69 and No. 70, covering supplies for Fire Department, <br />and 70 were ordered approved. <br />Xmas tree Application from N. L. Hermes for license to operate an Xmas <br />lot license. tree lot at 1707 Snelling Avenue North until December 2tt, 1955, <br />Hermes together xith check for X7:0.00, covering license fee, xas <br />considered. Approval voted on motion by Shavor, seconded by <br />Cartwright. <br />Xmas tree Also application from Clyde Melton, 938 Watson Avenue, St Paul, <br />lot license. to operate an Emas treat lot at 1702 Snelling Avenue North <br />Clyde Melton (Dairy Way) xas received, together x ith check for X10.00 cover- <br />ing license fee. Ordered approved on motion by Shavor, seconded <br />by Cartwright. <br />L.W.V. letter Letter of December 1 from the League of Women Voters relating <br />re skating to the skating rink at Idaho and Snelling, and a proposed rink <br />rinks zest of Snelling Avenue, xas read. It xas reported that the <br />rink at Idaho and Snelling had been flooded. Hustrulid said <br />that the matter of providing a skating rink west of Snelling <br />xas investigated some time ago and that the main problem xas <br />the rater supply. Said the green houses xere the only source <br />of rater supply and that they did not respond to the idea. <br />Hustrulid felt it xould be a ood ^• <br />g project to xork on next <br />smm~ner. The League's letter xas referred to Mr. Hustrulid <br />for handling. <br />Fire Dept. Letter xas read from Acting Volunteer Fire Chief Earl Grumke, <br />Ray Merkel's recommending that Ray Merkel, applicant for paid fireman <br />hours vacancy, be allowed to xork xith the two full-time paid f ice- <br />men for about ten days so as to familiarize himself xith the <br />duties of a fire motor operator. After discussion, Cartwright <br />moved that the hours of Ray Merkel. for the first ten days of his <br />employment be set at the discretion of the Acting Volunteer <br />Fire Chief. Seconded by Stewart and motion carried unanimously. <br />Ray Merkel Cartwright then moved that Ray Merkel be employed as a paid fire- <br />employed as man beginning January 1, 1956, at the rate of X275.00 per month, <br />paid fireman but that he be encouraged to attend Volunteer firemen's drills in <br />advance of that date if he xishes to do so. Seconded by Shavor <br />and carried unanimously. <br />1 <br /> <br />Apartment room Acting Volunteer Fare Chief Grumke's letter of December 5 was <br />for F.D. sleeper read, requesting that one of the bedrooms of the recently <br />vacated Village Hall apartment be designated for Fire Department <br />use for extra sleepers. It xas so ordered on motion by <br />Cartwright, seconded by Shavor. <br />Drapes and xork A note dated December 5, was read from George Sxanson, relative <br />bench offered to soma personal property he left temporarily at the Village Hall <br />by Branson <br /> <br />
