s ~ <br />Associated 1R. F. Stepnitz, Manager of Associated Investors, Inc. properties, <br />Investors- appeared before the council relative to complaints about parking <br />parking on property along Arona in the rear of the Associated Investors <br /> business block, and letter they had received from the Villa ge <br /> attorney in this connection. Mr. Stepnitz informed the council <br /> that most of the cars being parked on the lot at this time belonged <br /> to workmen xho are employed on construction of our new shopping <br /> center. In .the discussion that followed, Mr. Stepnitz promised <br /> to screen in and landscape the Associated Investors' vacant <br /> property along Arona, and he was asked to bring in another plan <br /> for development of the land,.~n e r be'e rc~ ~~ ~ t y , ~ r ~ s'& . <br />Standard Oil Building Inspector Christensen presented application from the <br />building permit Standard Oil Company for permit to install two new gasoline <br /> pump islands on their filling station property at Snelling and <br /> Larpenteur, also for widening one driveway. Cartwright moved <br /> approval, seconded by Nilsen, and motion carried unanimously. <br />E.J. Pennig On motion by Utecht, seconded by Cartwright, it was unanimously <br />building permit voted to appro~ra~,building permit application of E.J, Pennig for <br />construction of a house on the ne¢~th 218 feet of Lot 8, Annie <br />Hendrickson Acre Lots, the property to have access from Fry street <br />by private lane. <br />li~idening Village The Clerk presented a phoned report by Village Engineer Carley, <br />Hall driveway- estimating that 520 yards of fill would be needed in connection <br />fill with the proposed widening of the driveway west of the Village <br />. Hall. This, Mr. Carley said, would provide for widening the <br /> drive 20 feet for driving and some angle parking. He said this <br /> would leave the slope about the same as at present, xith bottom <br /> of the slope about 8 feet from the property line. After discussion, <br /> Nilsen was appointed as a committee of one to handle the matter. <br /> Building Inspector Christensen will check with contractors regarding <br /> the needed fill. <br />League survey Letter and questionnaire from the League of Minnesota Municipalities <br />of platting & regarding a survey they are making of the platting and subdivision <br />subdivision control practice in Minnesota, was referred to the Villa ge attorney <br />control in Minn. for handling. <br />Service Lanes, Letter of April 17, 1956, from J,E.P. Darrell, Director, Traffic <br />Snelling Ave. and Planning, State of Minnesota, regarding our inquiry about <br /> traffic use of the service lands along Snelling Avenue, xas read. <br /> Mr. Darrell said overly restrictive limits have proved ineffective <br /> on service roads and other streets. As a better way to discourage <br /> the improper use of lanes, he suggested the judicious install anon <br /> of stop signs at some of the more important cross streets. After <br /> discussion, it xas decided to hold the letter over for further <br /> consideration, <br />Speeding on Public Safety Supervisor Don Arndt's report regarding Officer Smith's <br />Fairview Ave. investigation of reported speeding on Fairview Avenue between <br /> Roselawn and Larpenteur, xas read. In view of considerable early <br /> morning and late afternoon traffic, the Public Safety Supervisor <br /> recommended posting of 30 m.p.h. signs in the area, two signs to <br /> be placed in each direction. Cartwright moved, that xe xrite the <br /> Board of County Commissioners, quoting the Public Safety Supervisor's <br /> reco~nendation. Seconded by Utecht and motion carried unanimously. <br />
