Stepnitz, Manager of Associated Investors, Inc. properties, Investors- appeared before the council relative to complaints about parking parking on property along Arona in the rear of the Associated Investors business block, and letter they had received from the Villa ge attorney in this connection. Mr. Stepnitz informed the council that most of the cars being parked on the lot at this time belonged to workmen xho are employed on construction of our new shopping center. Standard Oil Building Inspector Christensen presented application from the building permit Standard Oil Company for permit to install two new gasoline pump islands on their filling station property at Snelling and Larpenteur, also for widening one driveway. Cartwright moved approval, seconded by Nilsen, and motion carried unanimously. E.J. Pennig On motion by Utecht, seconded by Cartwright, it was unanimously building permit voted to appro~ra~,building permit application of E.J, Pennig for construction of a house on the ne¢~th 218 feet of Lot 8, Annie Hendrickson Acre Lots, the property to have access from Fry street by private lane. li~idening Village The Clerk presented a phoned report by Village Engineer Carley, Hall driveway- estimating that 520 yards of fill would be needed in connection fill with the proposed widening of the driveway west of the Village . Hall. This, Mr. Carley said, would provide for widening the drive 20 feet for driving and some angle parking. He said this would leave the slope about the same as at present, xith bottom of the slope about 8 feet from the property line. After discussion, Nilsen was appointed as a committee of one to handle the matter. Building Inspector Christensen will check with contractors regarding the needed fill. League survey Letter and questionnaire from the League of Minnesota Municipalities of platting & regarding a survey they are making of the platting and subdivision subdivision control practice in Minnesota, was referred to the Villa ge attorney control in Minn. for handling. Service Lanes, Letter of April 17, 1956, from J,E.P. Darrell, Director, Traffic Snelling Ave. and Planning, State of Minnesota, regarding our inquiry about traffic use of the service lands along Snelling Avenue, xas read. Mr. Darrell said overly restrictive limits have proved ineffective on service roads and other streets. As a better way to discourage the improper use of lanes, he suggested the judicious install anon of stop signs at some of the more important cross streets. After discussion, it xas decided to hold the letter over for further consideration, Speeding on Public Safety Supervisor Don Arndt's report regarding Officer Smith's Fairview Ave. investigation of reported speeding on Fairview Avenue between Roselawn and Larpenteur, xas read. In view of considerable early morning and late afternoon traffic, the Public Safety Supervisor recommended posting of 30 m.p.h. signs in the area, two signs to be placed in each direction. Cartwright moved, that xe xrite the Board of County Commissioners, quoting the Public Safety Supervisor's reco~nendation. Seconded by Utecht and motion carried unanimously.
