~= 5 N <br />Variance petition Letter of December 5, 195b, from the Planning Commission xas <br />re building, 1790 read, recommending that the petition signed by the Beim <br />West Larpenteur Investment Company arxi the Grudem Brothers Company for variance <br />in the s ideyard provision of the ordinance be rejected. After <br />discussion, Stexart moved that the petition be returned to the <br />Planning Commission's Secretary, Mr. Otis, xith a request on <br />our Village attorney to contact Mr. Otis and explain the <br />application of Ordinance No. 16 to this situation. <br />Hotel proposal- Report dated Hecember 5, 1956, from the Planning Commission, <br />Geo. Bauman & Co. xas read relative to the proposal of George Bauman and Company, <br />of St Paul, to convert their properties at 163lt and 16l~2 N. <br />Snelling and 1561 West Idaho from su~l.tiple dwelling classification <br />to a roadside motel, recommending that the surrounding property <br />owners, who agreed to the multiple dwelling rezoning on the <br />basis of plans and anticipated use of the buildings, be notified <br />or that a public hearing on the matter should be held. The <br />Planning Commission asked as to the total number of motel units <br />the Company proposes to operate and questioned that presen t <br />parking facilities xould accommodate more than the present <br />number of dwelling units. Utecht moved that a copy of the <br />Planning Commission's letter on this matter be referred to <br />George Bauman and Company. Seconded by Stewart and motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Gas rates The Clerk presented a new rate schedule which he said xas filed <br />xith the Village by the Power Company recently, providing for <br />a reduction of about 5~ per cent in the Company's revenues for <br />general service in Falcon Heights, effective December 1, 1956. <br />This lead to discussion of the council's action of November 28, <br />1956, to request the Power Company to grant natural gas users <br />in Falcon Heights the same rate as charged users in the City of <br />St Paul. .Utecht moved that the new rate schedule be referred <br />to our attorney in connection xith xriting a letter to the Power <br />Company, thanking them for the 'pericent reduction and asking <br />that gas rates in Falcon Heights be reduced to the same rates <br />charged in the City of St Paul. Seconded by Cartwright and <br />motion carried unanimously. <br />Warming house Notification from the Power Company xas presented that a <br />electric service request had been tiled for electric service for the xarming <br />house at the skating rink, 1393 Garden. Cartwright moved <br />that the Clerk be authorized to complete the notice, authorizing <br />the service.
