~~ <br />United Letter was read from the Minnesota United Nations <br />Nations Association; Rdinneapolis, relative to every nation <br />Week making October 2L~ a day of study and world. recognition <br />Committee of the United Nations, with. request to appoint an <br />able person to be in charge of UN Day and week activities <br />in each Community. Utecht moved the appointment of <br />Trustee Warkentien. Seconded by Stewart and motion <br />carried unanimously.- <br />Water main, Copy of a letter dated July 17, 1957 to the Board of Plater <br />E. Snelling Dr., Comn-issioners, St Paul, was read confirming the fact that <br />north of Crawford the St Paul Water Department was asked to raise the water <br />main on the East Service Drive of Snelling Avenue 1~0 feet <br />north of Crawford Street and to bill the Village for the <br />cost of the work estimated at 9325.00. Approval of the <br />letter was ordered on motion by Utecht, seconded by <br />Warkentien. <br />Competitive Copy of Attorney Graham's latter of July 15, 1957, <br />bidding relativ~ to competitive bidding. The 1957 amendment <br />to the statute, he said, means th3 t the Village is not <br />required to call for bids if the expenditure will be <br />less than $1000. Prior to April 13, 1957, the limit <br />was 9500. <br />Cloutier damage The attorney's report was received relative to hearing <br />to police squad from the Mutual Service Casualty Company as to their <br />car position with reference to claim for damages to our <br />police car on May 28, 1957, in which the automobile of <br />Lillian E. Cloutier, their insured, was involved. After <br />discussion, Utecht moved that the attorney be instructed <br />to try and collect the full amount of the damages (~~.1I~.70). <br />Seconded by Warkentien and motion carried unanimously. <br />Alley, Block 1, .Letter of July 17, 1957 from Engineer Ljungren was read <br />Northome Add'n. regarding his meetings with Prir. Berthiaume of the County <br />Engineer's staff regarding the cost of the work to be <br />done on the alley in Block 1, Northome Addi tion, agreeing <br />on an estimate of ~,1t60. He said this includes scarifying <br />and reshaping the alley, adding gravel where necessary <br />and dust coating, also furnishing of a set of grade stakes <br />for the bounty to work by. Trustee Nilsen was asked <br />to inform Engineer Ljungren about the work to be done <br />in connection with the alley under the direction of Mr. <br />Steffen and Mr. Barney and our desire to see how this works <br />out. <br />On motion by Stewart, seconded by Nilsen, application of <br />Standard Service Allan C. Fritsche to operate a gasoline filling station <br />Station license (Standard) at 1691 N. Snelling Avenue, was approved subject <br />to inspection by the Fire Chief. <br />Police matters Warkentien reported that Police Commissioner Arndt was on <br />vacation and, upon his return would take care of Flaherty <br />Bowling Lanes matter involving minors.
