<br />Planneng for CARLSON SCHOOL <br />... ... <br />e • , EXPANSION AND CLASSR0011itS <br />._, - • <br />°: ~ `~~~'~= Twin Cities campus <br />.~'~ ~ .. <br />FACILITIES AND PROGRAM <br />The Carlson School of Management (CSOM) will <br />better meet the needs of Minnesota's business <br />community by turning out more graduates of the <br />undergraduate business program and the full- <br />time M.B.A. program by adding more classroom <br />space in a new facility. <br />• CSOM currently admits 300 freshman and 150 <br />transfer students each year, attracting students. of <br />.high academic achievement. <br />• CSOM is expanding its undergraduate business <br />program by 50 percent-to admit 150 more <br />freshman and 100 more transfer students. <br />• Fifty-three percent of incoming freshman are in <br />the top five percent of their class. With average <br />ACT scores of 28, they are in the top seven <br />'..percent of students nationvvide. <br />To support the growth in CSOM programs and <br />to address the instructional requirements of <br />-the College of Liberal Arts, the following will be <br />added: four 160-seat classrooms, six 90-seat <br />classrooms, one 60-seat classroom, and twenty <br />20-person breakout rooms. <br />• In addition to classrooms, the new facility will <br />provide space for: faculty and teaching assistants <br />in the expanded undergraduate business <br />program; advisers in a larger undergraduate <br />Business Career Center; on-campus interviews <br />by prospective employers;. a new undergraduate <br />computer lab; and informal individual and group <br />study space. <br />• To meet the competitive demands of incoming <br />.students and to better facilitate the instructional <br />.process, classrooms would support different <br />teaching methods using state-of-the-art <br />information technology and equipment. <br />REQUEST <br />$1.7 million + $0.8 million University contribution <br />PROJECT SCOPE. <br />Funds will be used to design a new instructional <br />facility adjacent to the existing Carlson School <br />of Management on the Twin Cities campus in <br />Minneapolis. The facility will include undergraduate <br />classrooms for CSOM and the College of Liberal. <br />- Arts, undergraduate computer laboratories, and <br />offices for CSOM's undergraduate student support <br />service programs. <br />The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer. <br />• <br />• <br />
