•
CONSENT G2
3/24/04
ITEM: Resolution of support for the Metropolitan Radio Board
SUBMITTED BY: Heather Worthington, City Administrator
EXPLANATION:
Summarv: The Metropolitan Radio Board was created in 1995 to plan, develop and implement a
region-wide public safety communications system. The structure of the Board has allowed local
governments to build public safety communication systems utilizing local bonding authority
through the Board, as well as invest in a metropolitan communication infrastructure which has
benefited many communities, including Ramsey County and Falcon Heights. Currently, Ramsey
County cities are exploring the expansion of 800 Mhz technology, and are utilizing the expertise
and authority of the Board in their process. In addition, the St. Anthony Police Department
utilizes 800 Mhz technology for their operations, and participates in a system that was organized
by the MRB.
• The MRB's legislative mandate sunsets in June of this year. The attached resolution urges the
Legislature to pass HF 2136 and SF 1973 which would eliminate the sunset, and allow the MRB
to continue to exist.
ATTACHMENTS:
Letter from Veid Muiznieks, President, Association of Metropolitan Municipalities
Resolution 2004-06
ACTION REQUESTED:
Adoption of resolution supporting the continued existence of the MRB.
•
i ~f
