• CONSENT F3
7/23/03
ITEM: Authorize Purchase of Rotating Chain Scraper for the Sewer Jetter
SUBMITTED BY: Bill Maertz, Parks and Public Works Director
REVIEWED BY: Heather Worthington, City Administrator
EXPLANATION:
Summary: The root saw that the public works department currently uses to remove tree roots
from sewer lines is ineffective in older, clay sewer lines. Small offsets in these pipes cause the
saw to become stuck, which causes downtime of up to an hour while the operator attempts to
remove the saw. The rotating chain scraper sold by Flexible Pipe Tool Company of St. Cloud
Minnesota uses spinning chains to cut the roots. These chains conform to offset tiles, providing a
cleaner pipe and reducing the chance of getting stuck.
ACTION REQUESTED:
• Authorize the purchase of an Enz 10.080 Rotating Chain Scraper, at a cost of $1,750, to be
• paid for from the Sanitary Sewer Enterprise Fund
•
~7
