PRESENTATION <br />3/26/03 <br />ITEM: Presentation of the 2002 Neal Kwong Youth Citizenship Award <br />SUBMITTED BY: Susan Gehrz, Mayor <br />Alan Kwong <br />Laura Kwong <br />EXPLANATION: <br />Summary: The Neal Kwong Youth Citizenship Award is awarded annually to one person <br />between the age of 12 and 21, who displays outstanding leadership, volunteerism, or citizenship <br />while making contributions to the Falcon Heights community. The recipient is recognized by the <br />city council, receives acknowledgement on a plaque at city hall, and is highlighted in the city <br />newsletter. Youth are recommended through the schools, a nomination process, or by individual <br />citizens of Falcon Heights. <br />Neal Kwong, a youth leader and Eagle Scout, died suddenly early in August 2000 while at Boy <br />Scout camp. Neal was an active coach, volunteer, and great young citizen. In his memory, the <br />City established the Neal Kwong Youth Citizenship Award to recognize outstanding youth <br />leaders, volunteers, and citizens in their work here in Falcon Heights. <br />Mayor Gehrz will present the 2002 Neal Kwong Youth Citizenship Award to one of the <br />following nominees tonight: <br />• Beth Duncan <br />• Karis Hustad <br />ATTACHMENT: <br />Nominations for each of the candidates <br /> <br />
