Caasent Agenda Item: F-4
Policy X CITY OF lALCON HEIGHTS
Meetiag Date:4/25/90
• - ..
• jtEQUESS YOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
r~
•
ITE'i DESCRIPTION:
POSTING OF LOAD LIMIT SIGNS
SIIBMITTED BY: Jan Wiessner
~yl~ By: .Terry Maurer, Vince Wright, Shirley Chenoweth, _
Tom Kelly
~L,ANATZ0NjSU?4SARY (attach additional sheets as necessary):
For many years, the City has hired Ramsey County Public Works Dept. to post
~: load limit restriction signs during the time of year when City ordinance
restricts the weight on City streets (included in Snowplowing Budget). .Ramsey
~ County has offered to sell the City the "load limit" signs for $15.00 each
($5.00 of which is charged as rent each year). City Public Works could then
be responsible for posting/removal each year (see attached). .Garbage trucks,
emergency trucks and buses are exempt from limits. _
c>W ~
~ when someone :wants to make a delivery (i.e. a building project), they
come to City Hall to get .permission to exceed the limit. During 1989, this
happened onYy two times. Most cities do not post load limit signs.
Due to the infrequency of use and the expense involved, we recommend that we
discontinue posting these signs. We can notify individuals of the weight
restrictions on the Building Permit forms. Approximately .May 1st,"the City will
be removing the signs which have been posted this year. The City Code can be
amended when we review those chapters.
ACTION REQIIESTED: Turn down County offer to purchase signs and discontinue
posting load limit signs on City streets.
~~
