City of Falcon Heights <br />Planning Commission <br />Meeting Date: 1 /22/96 <br />Action Item: 5 <br />• <br />ITEM: Review of key elements related to Falcon Heights in the draft <br />University of Minnesota Master Plan <br />SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator <br />EXPLANATION/SUMMARY: <br />The University of Minnesota Master Plan is nearing completion. The City <br />Administrator participates on the master planning committee. Her participation has <br />given the city an opportunity to express its concerns and keep informed of the <br />process. The draft plan contains many elements related to the St. Paul (Falcon <br />Heights) Campus. The attachments summarize the material. The complete <br />document provides more information on the entire St. Paul Campus plan. <br />General land use relationships <br />Here is a quick list of some of key points directly related to land uses that border <br />the neighborhoods and community. <br />1. Development patterns will be contained within the current design. <br />• 2. Encourage more campus housing in the Commonwealth Terrace area. <br />3. Create an attractive wetland area by Commonwealth Terrace/fairgrounds. <br />4. Enhance connections between the university and the surrounding <br />communities. <br />5. Preserve the open space including the university golf course and the <br />agricultural fields to the North of Larpenteur. <br />Implementation of the plan <br />The implementation of the master plan is critical to any plan that is created. The <br />implementation section of the plan is being revised. The administrator requested <br />that the implementation section include a specific step about when and how the <br />affected community would be notified of any projects or activities governed by the <br />master plan.
