Where, Why): <br />City Council in June 1993 requested that this issue be studied at the same time that it <br />imposed a moratorium within the City of Saint °aul on the location:;of-a'dd~itional firearm <br />businesses within 1,000 feet of a protected use. <br />ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED: <br />The report responds to the numerous concerns about the locations of gun shoos in the C= <br />It recommends that gun shops and shooting galleries be permitted in the I-1 zoning disc <br />subject to a special condition use permit, with one condition requiring that such uses E <br />located at least 1,000 feet from residentially zoned orooerty and from protected uses. <br />recommendations would legally non conform most existing gun shoos in the City. <br />DISADVANTAGES IF APPROVED: <br />None identified for children and neighborhood residents. <br />Ne~v gun shops would be restricted to I-1 zoning districts and to sites located at least <br />1,000 feet from residentially zoned property and from protected uses. <br />DISADVANTAGES IF NOT APPROVED: <br />The City would continue to permit gun shops to locate in commercial areas close to <br />residential uses and close to protected uses.
