Two training sessions are designed <br />to meet the different information needs of city staff and elected officials and board and <br />commission members. Register for one or both sessions as space allows. <br />Session l: For City Staff <br />Registration: 2: 30 p. m. <br />Program: 3-S p. m. <br />This hands-on session explores building and development fees, parkland-dedication <br />requirements, and the need for written findings. (A Q & A session follows the presentation. <br />Written materials and samples will be provided.) <br />• Learn how to set building and development fees in accordance with legislative <br />requirements and in ways that support city decision-making. <br />• Learn how to establish defensible parkland-dedication requirements. Review methods <br />cities can use to support decisions to request a contribution from developers to meet <br />• increased demands on city parks and recreation. <br />• Review principles for developing written findings to support and help sustain land-use <br />decisions. <br />Session 2: For Elected Officials & Members of EDAs, HRAs, Planning Commissions, <br />and Port Authorities <br />Registration: 6: 30 p. m. <br />Program: 7-9 p. m. <br />City elected officials and planning commission members are often called to communicate <br />with the public and the courts to explain and justify land-use decisions. (A Q & A session <br />follows the presentation. Written materials and samples will be provided.) <br />• Learn how to effectively run a public hearing and arrive at sound land-use decisions. <br />• Find out how to develop written findings to support decisions and reflect thoughtful <br />consideration of the issues. <br />• Get a broad overview of requirements for establishing building and development fees, <br />and parkland-dedication requirements. <br />Dates & Locations: <br />• June 8--St. Cloud <br />(Registration closes: June 3) <br />• St. Cloud Civic Center, 10 Fourth Avenue South <br />
