•
MEMORANDUM
To: Members of the Planning Commission
CC: Heather Worthington, City Administrator; Peter Lindstrom, Council Liaison
From: Deb Jones, Staff Liaison
Subject: Planning Commission Meeting and Public Hearings of February 4, 2003
Date: January 29, 2003
We have a lot to do on Tuesday evening, and there is a lot for you to read in advance of the meeting.
Heather will be present to give background and any requested information; we also expect the City Attorney
to be present.
We'll take the business of the SE Corner project first, because that is mostly a formality. The two SE Corner
items are (1) the Preliminary Plat and (2) the Comp Plan Amendment. For each item, the public hearing will
be opened by the Commission Chair, comments will be taken, and the hearing will be closed. Then you will
. entertain a motion for approval before moving on to the next hearing.;.
You will follow the same procedure for Item 3, the Farmer's Market Ordinance, which also begins with a
Public Hearing. We expect more public comment at this one.
For all three of these items, you are receiving a staff report and supporting documents including copies of
legal notices, letters that were sent to property owners within 350 feet and other items. You will probably
find the SE Corner plans very interesting.
That sums up the regular agenda business for the February 4 meeting. Between now and then Heather or I
will be getting in touch with each one of you to answer any questions or hear any concerns you might have.
Please feel free to call one of us, though, if anything comes to mind. The SE Corner approvals are really a
formality at this stage; the plans are still preliminary.
The last item in your packet is a letter from Northome resident Lynnanne Warren expressing concern about
the height of garages in the city, along with a memo and staff report. This is for your information. Short of
bringing it up during the "Information and Announcements" period, I do not anticipate that you will want to
take any action at this time. Ms. Warren does plan to attend the meeting.
I invite you to check the Planning Commission web pages for links to the affordable housing report
Councilmember Lindstrom mentioned at your last meeting. The link is:
http://www.ci.falcon-heights.mn.us/plancom
Please put the following on your calendars:
^ Thursday, February 20 -Community Meeting on SE Corner, 6:30 p.m.
^ Saturday, February 22 -Walk-through of SE Corner site, 9:00 a.m. (Details forthcoming)
^ Tuesday, February 25 -Next Planning Commission Meeting with hearing on PUD.
See you Tuesday evening!
