<br />PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT 9 -13.01 <br />PART 13. SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br />9-13.01 Signs: General. <br />Subdivision 1. Permit Required. Except as otherwise provided in this section, no sign <br />or structure shall be erected, constructed, altered, rebuilt or relocated except as provided <br />in this chapter and until a permit for the same has been issued by the zoning administrator <br />upon application and to include such information as is required for a complete <br />understanding of the proposed work. <br />Subdivision 2. Exceptions. No permit will be required for the following: <br />a. A change of copy on any advertising sign. <br />b. A nameplate (identification) sign not exceeding two (2) square feet of display <br />surface on residence property stating only the name, address and profession of an <br />occupant. <br />c. Aground sign advertising either the sale or rental of the premises upon which <br />it is maintained when such sign does not exceed ten (10) square feet of display <br />• surface. <br />d. Street, warning and other official or non-advertising signs erected by a <br />governmental body or by others where required pursuant to a legal authority. <br />e. Election signs except those to be displayed on new, permanent structures or <br />supporting elements. The only exemptions permitted by this paragraph shall <br />apply only construed as relieving the owner of the sign from responsibility for its <br />erection and maintenance in a good and safe condition. <br />Subdivision 3. Permit Fee and Issuance. <br />a. An application for a permit shall be accompanied by a fee as per the approved <br />permit fee schedule of the city. <br />b. It shall be the duty of the zoning administrator, upon the filing of an <br />application to examine the plans and specifications and other data and the <br />premises upon which it is proposed to erect the sign or other advertising structure <br />or display. If it shall appear that the proposed structure is in compliance with the <br />requirements of this code, the zoning administrator shall then issue the erection <br />permit. <br />1 <br />• <br />
