Greek Housing Examples
Treanor Architects, Inc. is possibly the architectural firm with the largest number
of new and remodeled Greek housing facilities in the country.
http://www.treanorarchitects.com/ Good examples of their work can be found
on their Greek Life Portfolio web page.
http'//www treanorarchitects.com/greeklife port.html Exterior photos may be
pulled up on some of the sorority and fraternity houses. Tabs to the right of
each photo provide interior views of the common spaces.
Hug & Associates, LLC is an Atlanta, GA firm that has designed several Greek
houses recently. Their web site allows the viewer to explore the common
areas of their new client facilities.
http://hugarchitects.com/portfolio hospitality.html
Capstone Development Corporation caters to the Greek housing market that
intends to condominiumize a number of Greek houses in a University
redevelopment process. The University of Minnesota is currently in the
exploratory phase of consolidating Greek chapters along University Ave. into
a condominium development at a distant site. http://www.capstone-
dev.com/com communities.asp Capstone's concept and development
• process is explained in the following site: http://www.capstone-
dev.com/greek.asp . There are no images of their completed projects, but
facilities would look much like the newer dormitory buildings on their web site.
Alpha Gamma Rho is not currently considering the participation in a
condominium housing arrangement.
This discussion presents the opportunity to frame the philosophy of Greek life in
the 21St century. Setting all the past negative Greek stereotypes, perpetuated
by the movie industry and unfortunate incidents in the news, aside, colleges
and universities generally embrace "A Call for Values Congruence".
http://www.aascu.ora/leadership/values congruence/congruence 05.pdf The
essence of this document is contained in the words found on page 4 as
follows: "A call for Values Congruence outlines a specific set of
strategies that campuses with negative Greek behavioral issues can use
to close the gap between what fraternities and sororities espouse and
what their chapters do." This is the current guiding document behind the
University of Minnesota's contract with Greek chapters and their Greek
advising program. The Greek web site can be found at
http://www.begreek.org/ . Alpha Gamma Rho's national web site is:
http://www.alphagammarho.org/ .
r~
