•
MEMORANDUM
To: Members of the Planning Commission
CC: Justin Miller, City Administrator;
Laura Kuettel, Council Liaison
From: Deb Jones, Staff Liaison
Subject: Planning Commission Meeting on February 27, 2007
Date: February 23, 2007
This month's formal agenda is very short, preceding two workshops. The workshops will
be off camera. Please bring the binder you received last month with the zoning chapter
and the comprehensive plan.
• The first workshop will be an orientation on variances, kind of a "mini-training," because
we expect to receive a variance application in March. We recommend that you read
Section 62 of the zoning chapter before the meeting, as well as the material in the packet.
The second workshop is in preparation for a planning application we expect to receive
from the UM chapter Alpha Gamma Rho. They have a fraternity house across the street
from the Falcon Heights Campus and are in negotiations with the University to build a
new house on campus. Because they would occupy the land under along-term lease, the
project would come under our zoning jurisdiction, and there is a lot of process that will
have to happen to make that possible. We recommend that you review the comp plan
before the meeting, because the broad question you will need to consider is whether this
use, which is not provided for in our zoning code, is compatible with our existing
comprehensive plan.
GTS has informed me that fall would be the soonest they could set up a custom training
for us, so we need to consider the options again. The final GTS 2007 training brochure is
now available. It has been emailed to you, or it can be downloaded from their website. I
will have some copies available at the meeting.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, please notify Staff as soon as possible. Thank
you!
C7
