<br />No R-90-40 <br />CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br />C O U N C I L R E S O L U T I O N <br />Date October 10, 1990 <br />----------- <br />A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 20-26, 1990 <br />AS RED RIBBON WEEK AND ENCOURAGING CITIZENS TO <br />PARTICIPATE IN DRUG PREVENTION EDUCATION ACTIVITIES <br />WHEREAS, Alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has <br />reached epidemic stages, and the 15-24 year old age group is <br />dying at a faster rate than any other age group; and <br />WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention <br />education efforts by community members be launched to reduce the <br />demand for drugs; and <br />WHEREAS, this Annual Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated <br />throughout America during National "Red Ribbon Week," October 20- <br />26, 1990; and <br />WHEREAS, President George Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush are the <br />National Honorary Chairpersons, and Governor Rudy Perpich and <br />Senator Rudy Boschwitz are the State Honorary Chairpersons to <br />provide this community focus on a Drug Free America; and <br />WHEREAS, business, government, law enforcement, schools, <br />religious institutions, service organizations, youth, physicians, <br />senior citizens, military, sports teams, and individuals will <br />demonstrate their commitment to drug-free, healthy lifestyles by <br />displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor's Commission Against Drugs and the <br />Roseville Area Parents Communication Network are sponsoring a Red <br />Ribbon Campaign offering citizens the opportunity to demonstrate <br />their commitment to drug free lifestyles; and <br />WHEREAS, THE COMMUNITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA is <br />committed to ensure the success of the RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Falcon <br />Heights does hereby support October 20-26, 1990, as RED RIBBON <br />WEEK and encourages its citizens to participate in drug <br />prevention education activities, making a visible statement that <br />we are strongly committed to creating safer, more caring, drug- <br />free neighborhoods. <br />
