CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a special meeting of the <br />. City Council of Falcon Heights, Minnesota was held on the 6th day of July, <br />1982. <br />The following members were present: Mayor Warkentien, Council- <br />members Eggert, Larson, Ciernia and Chestovich, and the following were <br />absent: None. <br />Councilmember Ciernia introduced the following resolution and <br />moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION 82-29 <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SCHOOL ?BOARD OF <br />DISTRICT 623 RESPECT THE HISTORICAL, CURRENT <br />AND FUTURE ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL OPEN SPACE BY <br />THE COMMUNITY AS A RECREATIONAL RESOURCE <br />WHEREAS, District-wide attendance reductions and pupil redisbrib- <br />utions have created surplus elementary school space and, <br />WHEREAS, financial contingencies have necessitated more efficient <br />use of space and, <br />WHEREAS, after due deliberation, the District 623 Board chose to <br />close the Falcon Heights Elementary School and, <br />• WHEREAS, for some 30 years the open space surrounding the school <br />has been the focal point for community recreation, especially by children <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, the children of the community continue to use the open <br />space and, <br />WHEREAS, the community has consistently and faithfully supported <br />District initiative and programs, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of Falcon <br />Heights, Minnesota that in effecting any long term disposition of the <br />Falcon Heights School or the surrounding open space, the School Board of <br />District 623 respect the historical, current and future access to the <br />school open space by the community as a recreational resource. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if the sale or ]_ease is the long- <br />term decision, that the City of Falcon Heights be allowed to negotiate <br />for all or some of the land. <br />The motion for the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Coucilmember Larson and upon a vote being taken thereon the following <br />voted in favor there: Mayor Warkentien, Councilmembers Eggert, Larson, <br />Ciernia and Chestovich, and the following voted against the same.
