Minutes
City of Falcon Heights, Park and Recreation Commission Meeting
March 10, 2003 City Hall Conference Room
7:00 PM
Meeting Chair.' Chuck Long
Minutes by: Bill Maertz
Copies to: Commission members, Council members, Heather Worthington- City
Administrator, Recreation Coordinator- Diane Meyers
Meeting called to order 7:00 PM
1. Approval of agenda
2. Approval of minutes
3. Policy Item: facility rental fees. Discussion of ways to increase revenue from
field rental and promote field availability for Falcon Heights residents. Maertz
• provided some background on the increase in demand for field reservations.
Council liaison Kuettel suggested that fees be increased for non -resident so
that the city recovers the costs trash pickup and maintenance. Dolan
suggested that Falcon Heights use other City's field policies as a benchmark.
Commissioners felt that an hourly charge for non-residents would be better
than a flat fee. It was agreed to increase the fee for non-residents to $15 per
hour to reserve the field at Community Park.
4. Directors Report: Maertz gave an update on potential measures to trim costs
from the recreation budget. Alternatives include reducing the number of
coaches, canceling classes that have insufficient enrollment to pay coaches
salaries, increasing fees and reduction in the number of scholarships offered.
Trolley path project: discussion of potential improvements to the path that
runs between Grove Park and Lauderdale's Nature Area. Maertz stated that
neighborhood meetings would be held to determine if there was interest.
5. Kuettel suggested that Chairman Long write a letter to local businesses
making them aware of the opportunity to contribute to the Falcon Heights
Friends of the Parks Fund.
Meeting ended at 8:00 PM
Minutes respectfully submitted by Bill Maertz if there are any corrections or
additions please contact Bill Maertz at (651) 644-5050 or a-mail him at
• bmaertz ci.falcon-heights.mn.us
