Staff Report
Recreation Update- Abernathy reported that the summer brochures went out
in the City newsletter, to the schools and is now online. Registrations are
starting to trickle in slowly. Abernathy also reported to the Commission that
the U of M Golf Course is now under new management so we have had a
slight change in what they will be accommodating us as far as golf programs.
They will honor the classes we have published in the brochure but only
implement the classes we get enough registrations for. Therefore if there is
less than five in any of the golf programs they will not happen. They will be
putting Abernathy in touch with PGA professional instructors who are looking
for teaching jobs this summer to instruct those classes. Summer applications
have been coming in steadily. There are 8 recreation staff returning so far from
last year and a few new ones that Abernathy will be interviewing. All summer
staff should be hired by the end of April.
Abernathy then asked the Commission about the entertainment for this year's
Ice Cream Social. Abernathy is looking at using Kidsdance again this year
after being a crowd hit at last year's event. All Commissioners agreed that
• Kidsdance is very suitable for this event and many enjoyed it last year.
Abernathy also reported that she met with the painting company that would be
repainting the Curtiss Field Playground. This project will begin as soon as the
weather is suitable. The playground is expected to be out of service for about
