The Commission walked down to the open land
parcel that is located off of Lindig Street. Commissioners did discuss the
possibility that it could be used or turned into a dog park type area however it is
known that the neighbors in the area like their quiet and may not be open to it
being developed into anything. Abernathy also updated the Commission on the
possibility of combining with the fire department and creating a new fall event.
Abernathy spoke with the Chief Kurhajetz and they were very excited to have us
on board. As of right now it is planned for the first or second weekend in
October. The City will also be acquiring the use of a "Safe Escape House", a
mini house that simulates a fire with smoke and heat and is operated by fireman
who then teach kids what to do if there is a fire in their house or bedroom.
• Abernathy then asked the Commission for other activities that may be included
in this event. Many Commission members collectively discussed it being a "fall
fest" of some sort where maybe the local businesses or restaurants are
included. Long reminded the Commission of the Southwest Corner's event-
