MINUTES PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION September 21, 1994 Present Jackie Benson Morrie Nicholson Steve Shugel Carol Wiesberg Nancy Wickhem Carol Kriegler, Parks & Rec Director Jan Gibson Talbot, Council Liaison Absent Allan Weinand Guests Paul Binder Janice Kragness COMMUNITY PARK TENNIS COURT LIGHTS AND LATE NIGHT ACTIVITY In attendance at this meeting were guests Paul Binder and Janice Kragness, both neighbors of Community Park. The commission reviewed survey responses and after discussion and statements by both guests, the commission voted 4 - 1 in favor of the light policy being changed to coincide with park closing at 10 p.m. The dissenting vote was due to concern that a 10 p.m. lights out may be too early and while very sympathetic to the neighbors present, felt that an 11 p.m. or midnight lights out may be a better and more balanced way of respecting and serving the needs of both residents and court users. Carol Kriegler will write a summary statement to present to the city council for their consideration. Our thanks to Mr. Binder and Ms. Kragness for joining us. COMMUNITY PARK TRAIL & EXERCISE STATION REHABILITATION Carol Kriegler reported that trail rehabilitation at Community Park will begin soon with much of the work being done "in-house" by the Falcon Heights public works crew. Carol Kriegler and Pete Klingenberg met with some Falcon Heights residents who use the vita course exercise stations. They indicated that they would like to see the course stay relatively the same. Some new pieces of equipment will be ordered to replace those that have deteriorated. Pete Klingenberg has begun building and erecting new direction/instruction signs for the equipment stations, both at the Grove and at Community Park at considerable monetary savings for the city.
