Meeting Date: 8/9/93
Agenda Item: D - 1
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Community Park prairie planting
SUBMITTED BY: Carol Kriegler, Parks & Recreation Director
REVIEWED BY:
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY: As a part of the Cleveland Avenue project.,
larger wetlands emerged to collect storm drainage along the west
side of Community Park. The adjacent areas are graded with
gradual slopes and are scheduled for wetland and prairie .seeding
this fall.
Brian Malzer has proposed a prairie seedling planting service
project at the. Community Park for his Eagle Scout project. He
proposes to organize and manage his fellow scouts and other
interested members of the community in a prairie planting of
about 2,000 seedlings this fall (approximately Oct. 1). A
seedling planting has been considered very desirable because it
will significantly accelerate the prairie establishment. Jyneen
Thatcher is willing to assist in the management of this project.
The cost of the seedlings is anticipated to be about $2,000.
