Meeting Date: 4/13/92
Agenda Item: D-4
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Recreation Program Scholarship Program
SUBMITTED BY: Carol Kriegler
REVIEWED BY: N/A
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY: Listed in this year's summer recreation
program brochure is information regarding the opportunity for a
program scholarship. The scholarship program is intended to
provide youngsters with the opportunity to participate in our
programs when it might otherwise not be possible due to
financial reasons. This program was initiated after the city
received an anonymous gift of $100 to be used for this purpose.
The city now needs to establish a policy in an attempt to
successfully manage this program. Issues to be discussed
include:
- Eligibility (residents vs. non-residents), to what
extent, if any, "need" must be demonstrated
- Possible revenues to sustain program
- Scholarship value (partial program cost vs. full)
- Limits: # of programs seasonally, annually, etc.
Carol Kriegler will report on the policies used by other city's
recreation departments in managing their scholarship programs.
ATTACHMENTS: Application form currently being used to establish
our program.
ACTION REQUESTED: Make recommendations concerning the
establishment of a scholarship program.
