There being no corrections or <br />deletions, Erma Olson moved, seconded by Annette Geistfeld, that the Play <br />2, 1983 T~iinutes be approved as presented. Motion carried unanimously. <br />T°'~r. and T•1rs. David Resch, 1809 tisbury, requested a vari ante to erect a <br />privacy fence varyirg i n height froze three to six feet. r~rs. Resch presented <br />letters from the neighbors raising no objections. Don T~Iead moved, seconded <br />by Helen Brown, to approve the variance request. T~:otion carried unanimously. <br />Frank ~. iTillaurne, representing T°r. and Mrs. Norbert HermesfFalcon Shopping <br />Center, requested the City grant a variance from the enforcement of the Zoning <br />ordinance to permit continued use of the sign located atop a building in <br />the Falcon Shopping Center. The sign at one time was a revolving sign that <br />has been modified to be stationery. The sign'caas built in 1959 and has been <br />in continuous use since that time. I•Sr, and Mrs. Hermes received a letter from <br />the Clerk Administrator advising that the sign was in violation of the bi11- <br />board ordinance. After discussion ~zi.th Council, Attorney Jan de Ilorth, City <br />Attorne~ST, advised that the sign 4Tas not a billboard sign but a business sign. <br />~3ut, he felt the sign was in violation of the ordinance because of its size. <br />Therefore, they reoyuest a variance from 100 square feet of gross surface area <br />and the height of 2~ :eeet for the following re,ssons: ts~a~ the sign has been <br />in use for almost 25 years without objection, the variances requested are <br />relatively slight, the location of the gas station and its canopies at the <br />corner block sight lines for conventional signs, and the three-sided sign is <br />less obtrusive than a second permitted pylon sign. After a discussion since <br />Erma 01 son felt that lr. and I•rs. Hermes have a special problem because the <br />gas station shields tki.eir building, she moved, seconded by Annette Geistfeld, <br />that the variance be granted z~~-ith two conditions: (1) that the sign be used <br />only by the tenant who occupies the building and (2) that I~Ir. and Mrs. Hermes <br />forgo erecting a second pylon sign for their shopping center. `notion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Charles 6~. Larson, 172 Arena, requested a var~_ance to place an attached <br />garage five feet from the lot line. The neighbors have no objection to its <br />placement. After a discussion regarding its placement, Don TJIead moved, seconded <br />by Helen Brown, that the variance be granted.
