>::'•:::::2:' iii:::::`;: r cY;
Meeting Date: 28 October 1992
Agenda Item: P -2
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Lutheran Social Services Share -A -Home
SUBMITTED BY: Mr. Tim Hammond, Lutheran Social Services
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
Description
Mr. Tim Hammond of Lutheran Social Services is requesting funds
for the Share -A -Home program which places live -in persons in the
homes of older and disabled individuals to help them live an
independent life.
Criteria
1. The project is an intergovernmental project although only
two of the cities approached have committed funds to date.
2. The contribution of $1,000 is not proportional to the city's
population. Mr. Hammond is aware of this, but said he
wanted to start with this figure.
Maplewood (31,000) donated $3,000 ($.10 /person) and Vadnais
Heights (11,041) donated $200 ($.02 /person) and agreed to
publicize the request. Roseville is considering $4,000
($.12 /person) in a future budget. Falcon Heights' donation
at $.10 /person would be $538.00.
$538.00.
3. It is an on -going program. The city has contributed in the
past (1986 $670; $497 in 1987; $504 in 1989).
4. The city cannot do this independently.
5. It meets the health, safety and welfare requirements.
Other comments:
1. There is no money budgeted for this contribution. Council
should determine if a contribution is made that it come from
the 1992 or the 1993 contingency fund.
2. Mr. Hammond asked that the city publicize the program in its
newsletter.
ATTACHMENTS: 4711
A Guidelines for Contributions
B Letter from Mr. Hammond dated 14 September 1992 and
October 20, 1992
ACTION REQUESTED:
Discuss and respond to request for a contribution to Lutheran
Social Services Share -A -Home Program.
