(Copy of "'Graying of suburbs' to <br /> METRO EAST REGION Generate Problems" enclosed.) The need for communities such as <br /> 1299 ARCADE yours to respond to the growing problems of this population was <br /> ST PAUL MN 55106 <br /> (612) 774 -9507 noted. <br /> In this regard, I ask the City of Falcon Heights consider anew <br /> support of the Lutheran Social Service share -A -Home program in <br /> 1993. Share -A -Home places live -in persons in the homes of older <br /> and disabled individuals to help them continue the preferred <br /> independent living they can afford in your community. The program <br /> is instrumental in avoiding unnecessary institutional placement <br /> which is expensive for older and disabled adults as well as <br /> taxpayers alike. <br /> The program is currently in the second of a two -year cycle of <br /> major funding from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA). <br /> However, while MHFA has funded LSS Share -A -Home for a 24 month <br /> period, we must still secure support to supplement these dollars <br /> and service fees. As Share -A -Home continues to demonstrate <br /> significant financial savings, LSS is confident the State of <br /> Minnesota will further realize the cost effectiveness of this <br /> approach in caring for people. Greater funding might then be <br /> allocated which will decrease the need for further supplemental <br /> funding. <br /> Past financial support from the City of Falcon Heights has been <br /> much appreciated and I thank you for your consideration of renewed <br /> support.
