Meeting Date: 1/13/93
Agenda Item: C 7
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Contracting for Karate Instructional Services
SUBMITTED BY: Carol Kriegler, Park and Rec Director
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
Staff recommends contracting with or temporarily hiring Karl
Bradford of Karate Junction, 1550 W. Larpenteur, for karate
instruction to occur in an after school recreation program. The
6 week program is scheduled to begin January 25 at Falcon Heights
School. Mr. Bradford is a 3rd degree blackbelt and seven -time
national champion. He has instructed in several other area
community programs including Roseville Area Schools.
The decision whether to contract or hire Mr. Bradford (at
$20 /hour) is contingent on whether or not the city's liability
insurance will cover him as an instructor under a contract. If
it is unclear whether or not the insurance will cover him, the
city will temporarily hire him like it does all other coaches to
guarantee that he will be covered. Staff is waiting for a
response from the insurance company.
ACTION REQUESTED: Contracting for karate instructional
services at a cost of $20 per session
(or /hour), $120 total.
