ase Die o a,e <br /> Meeting Date: May 26, 1993 <br /> Agenda Item: C 7 <br /> CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Recommendation to city council on ADA <br /> compliance <br /> SUBMITTED BY: Human Rights Commission <br /> Brian Standing, Administrative Intern <br /> Shirley Chenoweth, City Clerk <br /> EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: At its May 18, 1993 meeting, the Human <br /> Rights Commission unanimously voted to recommend a set of <br /> findings and policy changes to bring the city into compliance <br /> with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). <br /> The recommendation consists of three parts: <br /> (1) Proposed resolution stating findings confirming the <br /> areas where Falcon Heights already complies with ADA <br /> requirements and recommended changes to city policies <br /> and procedures relating to employment, emergency <br /> evacuation, standard contract clause for future <br /> city contracts, grievance procedure notification and <br /> publication of TDD numbers (letterhead, phone <br /> directory, business cards) to meet ADA standards. <br /> (2) proposed ordinance excluding guide dogs and K -9 dogs <br /> from the regulation prohibiting animals in city parks <br /> (3) acceptance of the completed self evaluation form and <br /> accessibility audit to be filed with the city clerk. <br /> If adopted, these findings and changes, together with previous <br /> actions, should bring the city completely into compliance with <br /> ADA statutory requirements. <br /> ATTACHMENTS: 1.
