6. Readers are available to assist persons with a visual or reading <br /> disability with all public city documents; <br /> 7. City office equipment can be readily modified to accommodate <br /> people with disabilities; <br /> 8. Public and employee notice of the city's accommodation policy and <br /> procedures is provided in a variety of accessible formats, and; <br /> 9. City employment application forms avoid potentially <br /> discriminatory questions. <br /> In addition, the Council approved the following amendments to city policy <br /> to comply with ADA requirements: <br /> 1. Administrative Manual amendments: <br /> a. Employment: <br /> Section 4, Subdivision 1 Employment Selection Criteria: <br /> Substitute the word "qualifications" for "fitness," and modify <br /> the discrimination statement to conform to state statute, so that <br /> the second sentence of the subdivision reads: <br /> "All appointments will be made according to merit and <br /> Qualifications and will in no way discriminate against any person <br /> because of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, <br /> political affiliation, gender, marital status, public assistance <br /> status, disability, age or sexual preference." <br /> Section 4, Subdivision 3 Physical Examinations: <br /> Delete. <br /> Section 6, Subdivision 4 Sick Leave: <br /> Substitute the phrase, "certifying the need for his or her <br /> absence," for the phrase "indicating the nature of their <br /> illness," so that the fourth sentence of the subdivision reads: <br /> "An employee with an extended absence of three days or more may <br /> be requested to file a physician's statement, signed by the <br /> employee, certifying the need for his or her absence." <br /> b. Emergency Evacuation: <br /> The following statement shall be included in the administrative <br /> manual under a new heading, "Emergency Evacuation of Persons <br /> Requiring Assistance:" <br /> "The City will designate no less than four city employees who <br /> will assist physically challenged individuals in the event of an <br /> emergency evacuation of City Hall that occurs during normal <br /> business hours." <br />
