HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> DATE: June 15th TIME: 7:00 PM PLACE: City Hall <br /> Members Present Absent <br /> Bowers X <br /> Gibson Talbot X <br /> Groff X <br /> Harris X <br /> Sheppard <br /> Treadwell X <br /> Tait <br /> Willems X <br /> SUMMARY OF MEETING: <br /> 1. The minutes of May 18th were approved. <br /> 2. Mr. Mort Ryweck from the Minnesota League of Human Rights was present <br /> and gave an interesting presentation on Hate and Bias crimes. He presented <br /> material on ways to develop a pathway for dealing with crimes of this nature <br /> and some important steps to follow with the victims of such crimes. He felt that <br /> prevention, education and other organizational involvment and follow -up was <br /> extremely important. Gwen Willems will follow up with Thelma McKenzie of <br /> Roseville's Human Rights Commission to coordinate our efforts and theirs in <br /> this field. <br /> 3. The City Council approved all of the recommendations of the Human Rights <br /> Commission. It has also bugeted for all the necessay improvements which will <br /> be occurring soon, well before the deadline of January 1995. <br /> 4. The informational material on the organiztion known as Kaposia (which finds <br /> employment for the disabled) was given to Susan Hoyt for reviewal to see if the <br /> city may be interested in having this organization do various work for the city. <br /> 5. No -Fault training for Human Rights Commissioners is scheduled for Sunday <br /> June 27th at St. Louis Park city hall. All commissioners are welcome to attend. <br /> If you wish further information call the League of Minnesota Human Rights <br /> Commissions at 612 -535 -1051. <br /> 6. Project Reflect Respect held a meeting on June 3rd that was attend by John <br /> Treadwell and Dave Bowers. Their mission is: `To develop and enhance <br /> community support in Northwest Ramsey County for the values of acceptance, <br /> respect and sensitivity to difference among all people." Both John and Dave <br /> thought the meeting was very interesting and may be contacted by the Project <br /> for future involvement.
