Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent
Meeting Date: 9/8/93
Agenda Item: C 4
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Hiring of an intern on an hourly basis for
special projects
SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
The 1993 budget includes $6,500 for an intern position. This
position remained open after the departure of Brian Standing, the
University CURA intern, in May. The necessity of completing some
important projects over the next three months makes it timely to
employ Paul Colton as an hourly employee at the intern rate of
$9 /hour.
Mr. Colton recently completed his master's degree in urban and
regional planning from the University of Iowa. His work
experience includes working with the North Iowa Area Council of
Governments for two years. While working in this job, he became
familiar with local government and local zoning codes.
Mr. Colton will work with the administrator on the following
projects:
moving ahead on the adoption of a housing code
refining the home occupation code
researching land use controls licensing requirements and
related issues to complete the commercial moratorium as soon
as possible (With an intern doing this, the city can reduce
the amount of consultant time on this activity.)
Miscellaneous residential zoning code revisions
Mr. Colton's education and experience will allow him to quickly
and independently carry out these assignments. The hiring of Mr.
Colton will not commit the city or Mr. Colton to a specific
duration of employment.
ATTACHMENTS:
A resume of Mr. Paul Colton
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the hiring of Mr. Paul Colton on an hourly basis to do
special projects for $9 an hour.
Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent Consent
