!nsent ...Cons.
Meeting Date: 2/9/94
Agenda Item: C 5
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Request for authorization to request
proposals for the demolition and removal of
2061 West Larpenteur Avenue
SUBMITTED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
The acquisition of the property at 2061 West Larpenteur Avenue
and the relocation of its resident are well underway. Staff
anticipates an early March closing date on the property. As part
of the project, the city will need to arrange to have the
structure demolished and removed shortly after the city acquires
it to reduce the length of time the structure is unoccupied and
in city ownership. Therefore, it is time to request proposals
for the demolition and removal of this property.
The fire department plans to use the structure for training
activities prior to its demolition. Initially the department
received permission from the city council for smoke drills. The
fire chief and training director will be contacted about the
extent of training that the department plans for this structure.
Any activity, but especially burning, will require careful
coordination with the neighboring property owners.
Finally, as a reminder, the city received Community Development
Block Grant funds for the full federally mandated relocation
costs of the residents and for a major portion of the structure's
acquisition. The additional acquisition costs and demolition
costs are part of the city's 1988 TIF district plan.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the request to seek proposals for the demolition and
removal of the structure at 2061 West Larpenteur Avenue.
