P LIC <br /> Meeting Date: 2/9/94 <br /> Agenda Item: P 5 <br /> CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Request for a resolution for the Northwest Youth and <br /> Family Services (NYFS) application for 1994 Community <br /> Development Block Grant Funds <br /> SUBMITTED BY: Ms. Kay Andrews, Executive Director of NYFS <br /> REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator <br /> EXPLANATION /SUMMARY: <br /> The Northwest Youth and Family Services provides a variety of services to its member <br /> cities including family counseling and youth assistance programs. The City of Falcon <br /> Heights contributes approximately $9,000 toward its operations in 1994. In addition <br /> to this financial support, the NYFS is requesting the city's support for the NYFS's <br /> 1994 Community Development Block Grant Application to Ramsey County. <br /> The Northwest Youth and Family Services (NYFS) is considering purchasing a building <br /> for three reasons (Attachment A). These include: 1) the expanding size of the <br /> agency; 2) the potential financial savings to the organization; and 3) the desire for <br /> Iocational stability (the organization moved four times in eighteen years). <br /> The Community Development Block Grant program is extremely competitive. The City <br /> of Falcon Heights was awarded 110,000 in 1993.
