However, continued violations may <br /> result in the revocation of an officeholder or in substantial legal fees in court. <br /> Consequently, .tThe League of Minnesota Cities recently made an insurance policy <br /> available for city's to purchase to cover a portion of the legal expenses defending city <br /> officials, who are challenged with a violation of the open meeting law. The challenged <br /> elected official hires an attorney for his /her defense. The LMC plan reimburses the <br /> challenged elected official for legal expenses up to 80% of the cost, but not to exceed <br /> 20,000.
