City oft Falcon co Elegy e� t s <br /> A•s:_,.. <br /> �J J J J ..��IJ.� JJ JJ �.�J ..1.1 J <br /> ibet"a Ar-UOV OntI P rOgL J a tr1 On e4e°th <br /> WHEREAS, trees beautify our city, shade and cool our houses, enrich our <br /> atmosphere, and improve our quality of life; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Falcon Heights has recognized that trees are an <br /> invaluable resource since the city's incorporation in 1949, and has a long history of <br /> tree conservation as evidenced by the adoptin of the first tree ordinance in 1955, the <br /> first boulevard tree plantings in 1957,the first Tree Study Committee in 1962, and the <br /> first volunteer Tree Maintenance Committee in the early 1970's; and <br /> WHEREAS, Falcon Heights has aggressively fought the battle against Dutch elm <br /> disease, quickly removing diseased trees and replacing them with healthy ones; and <br /> WHEREAS, the cities commitment to maintaining its trees has been reconfirmed <br /> by the adoption of a 5 year tree trimming schedule for boulevard trees which began <br /> in the fall of 1992; and <br /> WHEREAS, Falcon Heights' commitment to trees in 1993 was formally <br /> recognized by its selection as a Tree City for the 5th consecutive year and the <br /> presentation of a Tree City Growth Award for the third consecutive year by the <br /> National Arbor Day Foundation; and <br /> WHEREAS, each year about this time, the people of Minnesota pay special <br /> attention to the wonderful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate themselves <br /> to the continued health of our state's urban and rural forest; <br /> I, TOM BALDWIN, Mayor of Falcon Heights, now proclaim May 7, 1994 to be <br /> ARBOR DAY and the month of May, 1994 to be ARBOR MONTH in Falcon Heights, <br /> Minnesota and I urge all citizens to become more aware of the importance of trees to <br /> their well- being, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green Falcon <br /> Heights in decades to come, and to plant, nurture, protect, and wisely use Falcon <br /> Heights' great treasure of trees. <br /> IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand this seventh day of May in the year <br /> One Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety -four. <br /> Tom Baldwin, Mayor <br />
