CONSENT CONSENT CONSENT CONSENT CONSENT CONSENT
Meeting Date: 5/5/94
Agenda Item: C 3
CITY OF FALCON HEIGHTS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Purchase of a pneumatic hammer and portable generator
SUBMITTED BY: Vince Wright, Public Works Foreman
REVIEWED BY: Susan Hoyt, City Administrator
EXPLANATION /SUMMARY:
The city's capital budget includes 4,000 for the purchase of a pneumatic hammer
and generator to improve the city's maintenance capabilities. The pneumatic hammer
with several different points can be used to put in sign posts, cut out concrete or
asphalt to improve a patch in a street, alley or sidewalk, and clean out cracks prior to
patching. Since much of the city's work is maintaining current streets, sidewalks,
parking lots and erecting signs, it is important that the staff have the right equipment
to do a good job.
In the past years the city rented a pneumatic hammer and compressor to put up state
fair parking signs. The fee was 180 per day for 2.5 days or a minimum of 450
for rental. In 1994 MTC requested that the city put up new transit signs for the
company, approximately 25 signs throughout the city. The MTC will reimburse the
city 25 for each sign constructed..
After researching the actual cost of a pneumatic hammer and compressor, staff found
that the costs are higher than budgeted. The costs found:
Used from Aspen equipment 5,700
Used and refurbished from
Carlson equipment 6,289
New from Reed equipment $13,484
Staff recommends purchasing the pneumatic hammer and compressor from Carlson
equipment because it is in good condition and will serve the city's purpose. The
equipment from Aspen is in poor condition.
ATTACHMENT:
A Photograph of pneumatic hammer and compressor
4
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the purchase of a pneumatic hammer and compressor from Carlson
equipment for 6,289 out of the capital improvement fund.
NSEN
CO <`<<>C N S EN
±IEI> SENT 3NSEN"
