Emphasize building positive <br /> neighborhood networks through the <br /> neighborhood watch groups <br /> Goal 3: To promote community involvement with youth. <br /> (This is in response to councilmembers raising this as an important <br /> activity.) <br /> Action item 1: Continue the park and recreation scholarship <br /> program (successfully supported through <br /> donations) <br /> Action item 2: Continue to create opportunities for youth <br /> through the park drop -in program at Curtiss <br /> Field and the junior leaders program <br /> Action item 3: Provide community and neighborhood <br /> events for informal interaction (goal 2) <br /> Action item 4: Encourage formal and informal <br /> interaction with youth by the council, <br /> commissions and staff <br /> For example: <br /> continue to involve youth <br /> representatives on commissions <br /> park and recreation programs and <br /> facility maintenance and improvements <br /> are directly or indirectly related to <br /> youth <br /> fire prevention interacts with youth at <br /> the school, day care homes, tours of <br /> the fire station, and the junior <br /> firestarter program for potential youth <br /> arsonists <br /> the fire department has the explorer <br /> scouts, tours with children, the fire and <br /> rescue open houses and informal visits <br /> with families and children <br /> 2 <br />
