Larpenteur Avenue <br /> Falcon Heights, MN. 55113 -5594 <br /> Dear Ms. Asleson: <br /> This letter is a request that the City of Falcon Heights conduct a <br /> parking study of Tatum Street between Larpenteur Avenue and <br /> Roselawn Avenue. <br /> Tatum Street has become a free parking lot for individuals who are <br /> connected with the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus. Where <br /> ever all day parking is allowed, these individuals will park their <br /> car all day. Many times this is on both sides of the street. Some <br /> days, there are over 25 cars parking during all working hours. I <br /> object to this for a number of reasons: <br /> 1. When cars park on both sides of the street, it really narrows <br /> the amount of space cars can use driving down the street. <br /> Several times, I have had to wait for a car to pass before I <br /> could continue going in the opposite direction. <br /> 2. There are no sidewalks on Tatum Street. Everyone who lives on <br /> the street has to walk on the street in order to get around <br /> the neighborhood. That includes, among others, the many <br /> senior citizens like myself who like to take walks during the <br /> day, the children who want to go over to friend's homes, <br /> neighborhood individuals who want to go bike riding, and <br /> homeowners who want to walk their pets everyday. During the <br /> day we have to be extremely cautious not to get in the way of <br /> the cars on the street and it is especially difficult when a <br /> car is parked on each side of the street and we have to share <br /> the remaining narrow roadway with other cars. <br /> 3. The individuals parking on the street have no concern for the <br /> residents on the street. Many of them race down the street to <br /> find a parking spot and then at night race down the street to <br /> get home. The speed limit of 30 miles an hour is completely <br /> ignored. This is dangerous for the residents using the <br /> street. <br /> 4. Several years ago my taxes and other neighbors taxes were <br /> raised to pay for improvements on our streets. I don't <br /> appreciate non residents using our improved streets and <br /> indirectly using my money for a free parking lot. What seems <br />
