WASTE REDUCTION WEEK John Brynildson and Mike Haglund were assigned to
coordinate activities in connection with 1995 Waste Reduction Week, which is the last week
in September. One proposal is to invite displays from all of the haulers licensed to operate in
the city.
DISCUSSIONS WITH HAULERS AND RECYCIER In order to educate the
Commission about the current state of solid waste and hazardous waste disposal and recycling,
and to identify issues requiring attention, the Commission will be inviting each licensed
garbage hauler, as well as the citywide recycling contractor, to meet with the Commission
(one at a time) for a general discussion of ideas, problems, and issues. EZ Recycling has
been invited to attend the March meeting for this purpose, and each hauler will be invited to
attend a subsequent meeting. The Commission went on to discuss possible topics for
discussion with EZ at the March meeting, including the separation of recyclables (mixed mail,
colored glass, etc.), opportunities for sale of recyclables, expanding the range of items
collected, disposal of oil and batteries, contamination of recyclables, and concerns or
information that F2 may want to pass on to the community.
NEWPORT FACILITY: The Commission will be schedviing a field trip to the Newport
recycling facility, but no date was established.
REVIEW AND UPDATE OF SOLID WASTE ORDINANCES: The Commission has
postponed its review and discussion of City ordinances ralatina to solid waste until the
conclusion of the State legislative session so that any relevant changes in state law can be
addressed at the same time.
On the motion of Barbara Leary, seconded by Susan Smith, the meeting was adjourned at
8:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan K. Smith, Secretary
3
