Meeting Minutes
August 8, 2011
Present: Peter Lindstrom, Ethan Wagner, Nina Semmelroth, Stan Sveen, Brian Goodspeed,
Diane Ross, Justin Miller
Absent: Rebecca Montgomery, Gretel Keene
1. Minutes of the July 11th meeting were reviewed with no suggested changes.
2. Miller provided an update on recycling statistics provided by Tennis Sanitation. January
and February reports did not break out single vs. multi family numbers, so true
comparisons were only available beginning in March. Further, it appears that data
provided by Waste Management for multi - family buildings contained some discrepancies,
so year -to -year comparisons for these buildings were not available. The commission asked
that they continue to receive these updates in the future.
3. Miller provided a draft "Buy Local" card that will assist the city in gaining credit in the
GreenStep Cities program. No further action was taken.
4. Miller provided information on the "complete streets" concept and stated that adopting
such a policy would also help the city gain credit in the GreenStep Cities program. Miller
asked the commission to review the examples provided and to let him know if there were
any areas that they would like included in a draft policy. Miller will bring the draft policy
back to the next commission meeting.
5. Commissioners commented on the great turnout at the Ice Cream Social and the number of
environment/ energy focused vendors at the event.
6. Semmelroth asked that Xcel Energy be contacted about their methodology in preparing
their billing inserts that compare residential energy usage between neighbors. Miller stated
he will try to collect some information.
