Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 10, 2011
Present: Rebecca Montgomery, Diane Ross, Ethan Wagner, Justin Miller
Absent: Nina Semmelroth, Brian Goodspeed, Gretel Keene, Stan Sveen, Peter Lindstrom
1. Minutes of the September 12th meeting were reviewed. Montgomery corrected the minutes
referring to "bike racks' and changed them to "bike trails'.
2. Miller provided background on the wind turbine ordinance examples that he previously
sent to the commission. Most were focused on the county level, and turbines in urban
areas were discouraged due to technological and cost issues. Due to the low attendance,
the commission agreed to carry the item over to the next meeting.
3. Miller stated that the Alliance for Sustainability was looking into hosting their conference
of environment commissions at Falcon Heights City Hall on November 15th and requested
that the Falcon Heights commission be in attendance. Once details are confirmed, Miller
will distribute information.
4. The commission reviewed Rethink Recycling's "Get Less" website and campaign. The
commission was interested in promoting it through the city's website.
5. Montgomery spoke about a discussion she had with a University of Minnesota professor
who was conducting research on tree cover in the Capitol Region Watershed District. He is
a Falcon Heights resident and is interested in using the data for Falcon Heights' benefit.
Miller stated that he would try to contact the professor.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
